The Last Lap
English Racing Automobiles (ERA) was a British motor racing team and manufacturer founded in 1933, known for its successful participation in Grand Prix racing during the 1930s. The team achieved significant success with its innovative cars, including victories in prestigious events such as the 1935 French Grand Prix and the 1937 British Grand Prix. ERA cars were renowned for their engineering excellence and competitive performance, making them a prominent name in the history of motorsport during their active years.
In 2014, former British Touring Car racer Anthony Reid has the opportunity to test drive an ERA R4A at Silverstone for Autosport Magazine. “The first thing that strikes me is what a remarkable piece of engineering it is,” says Reid. “The way it’s put together is really purposeful, designed for the job in hand. It looks really solid so I have quite a lot of confidence just looking at the car. You can see it’s well put together.”
You can read how the test drive went here.
