👀 A parent-friendly business note from Amy...

If you're like me, you've been doing parenthood differently to how you were raised. And if you have a business idea, you may have even started building something already, before releasing it into the world...

I was in that place in July 2016, with our first baby born in London. Learning how to be a new parent without a 'village', freelancing, travelling and starting a family with another person from a different country to mine, in a completely new city and country.

In addition to that, I applied and was accepted into a startup program which began seven weeks after my unplanned emergency c-section. 'Perfect' timing, right?

All jokes aside, what I noticed when I brought our newborn into these weekly workshops over three months was I didn't need to have it all figured out and 'perfected' before I launched.

I could speak while breastfeeding.

Pitch to complete strangers while babywearing.

Create a slide deck during naptime if I wanted to.

Record voice notes on walks with a babe in the stroller.

Even attend startup and tech events with our infant, diaper bag and gear.

Nobody asked us to leave...

But I did learn a lot about myself, our baby and my ideas in the process.

I began with the belief everyone deserves to design a life that works for them and their family.

And I started documenting my experiences entering business spaces, becoming an accidental activist as a parent building in public.

Learning you can validate your business idea, build an audience and create change as you are – parenting and all – right now.

Because for me over the past nearly nine years, I've discovered showing up in business spaces alongside your kid(s) and sharing your story is an unconventional but HIGHLY EFFECTIVE way to invest in yourself and create an impact, alongside your loved ones.

With the side benefits of getting your ideas out of your head, into the world, testing and tweaking in real time AND feeling less alone as a parent in the process.

Because if you're waiting to be 'ready' or 'polished' or 'professional', the dreams, musings and downloads won't see the light of day.

Life always has a way of ensuring other things take priority:

Paid work, parenting, staying hydrated, making endless snacks, chasing sleep between teething, colds and other milestones.

And before you know it *poof* the ideas have floated away and you're lucky if you can remember where you left the stroller or parked your car.

Five years ago, I wrote and published my first non-fiction book, ‘Startup Blogging: Validate A Business Idea And Build Your Audience‘, documenting my behind-the-scenes lived experiences of creating this social impact movement, which has become Mixing Babies And Business.

I first delivered this content as a three-hour workshop in 2019, explaining how I used storytelling to design, create, launch and test my business idea.

This book is the result of many real-life experiences and experiments during my parenthood and entrepreneurship journey and I'm delighted to celebrate its' 5th birthday with you – it's currently available for FREE as an ebook for Kindle Unlimited members or for $0.99 until May 11th, 2025 on Amazon.
