What's Stopping You from Acting?
May 29, 2025 2:06 pm
In my own professional journey and from years of experience with clients, it is all too often that we find excuses to take action on our projects, goals, or tasks.
Recognizing the Barriers
Why do we find excuses to take action? The reasons are many and varied: lack of clarity, uncertainty about our goals, prioritizing urgency over importance, feeling imposter syndrome, needing to get buy-in from the team, and seeking perfection over action. These blocks can arise in any context—whether it's technology, marketing, sales, new offers, staffing, scaling, or even downsizing.
Next Action Thinking
However, the real question is, why don't we choose "next action thinking" to gain more information on all of those blocks we create for ourselves? I was first exposed to this concept by my friend Brad Farris of Anchor Advisors. Taking even a small step in the direction of our goals can help us see more around the corner. It provides us with more information to take the following action, and so forth, until we eventually reach our end goal.
Momentum (& Strategy) Through Action
In my experience, both personally and with clients, I've found that "next action thinking" breeds clarity and momentum. Whether it's launching a new marketing campaign, adopting a new technology, or restructuring your team, taking that first step can illuminate the path forward. Even if we eventually decide the next best action is to stop, doing so strategically—after taking informed actions—is far more beneficial than never starting at all.
Let's break down the barriers together and transform hesitation into progress. If you want help with the next step concerning business goals/planning/tactics or technology decisions/implementation, I'm only an email or a courtesy meeting away.
