Turning the tech off sometimes

Nov 10, 2023 4:36 pm

This weekend is upon us! We (hopefully) use this time to recharge and spend time with our friends and family. But I doubt you will take much time from your tech this weekend.

As I get mid-age-old and mature as a professional, I've learned despite my being literally being a technologist, pausing for a midday nap, going offline for a camping trip, or purposely going into a focus time without my phone or computer can be freeing. It is necessary for us to allow our minds to wander into areas they may not otherwise.

What's surprising is, when we take an intentional break from tech it disrupts our patterns and can allow us to access new ideas. I have found interrupting my habits via tech fasting, or at least a change in my tech use rhythm, enables me to optimize my computer time when I return to it.

Have you seen any gains when you step back from your tech in life or business? I'd love to hear those stories; hit reply and let me know.

Perhaps this weekend, you can turn all your devices off, disable wifi, and find peace in being offline... even if only for a short while.

Yours in tech,

—Joshua
