Shedding Your Tech "Dead Weight"

What exactly is "Dead Weight" in your tech stack? It is unused or underutilized technology resources that are costing your business money without providing sufficient value. It could be anything from software licenses web services subscriptions, to outdated hardware (like POS systems or old computers).

Every month, I have a ritual. I review all my licenses/subscriptions. I check their current usage, cost, and the value they provide to the business. The "keep/don't keep" decision isn't always about money; sometimes, it's time or efficiency. I aim to ensure I'm not carrying any "dead weight," sucking time, money, or opportunity from my business.

If you do this regularly, you'll discover tools you have moved away from. It is usually only because you forgot to cancel the old subscription. Such monthly fees are easy to miss but add up over time.

Other times, you'll realize the value of the tech you are paying for no longer aligns and it is time to move on. Even if the ROI on paper is there, you may try a new approach or eliminate an old process to make way for new possibilities.

So, it's time for you to consider your "tech dead weight." Are there any tools or services you're paying for but not fully utilizing? Could you save money or time by dropping them? Or perhaps there's an opportunity to replace them with newer, more efficient tech?

In the fast-paced business world, staying lean and efficient isn't just a suggestion; it's a necessity. Consider your ritual to ensure you're not carrying any "tech weight."
