#CatskillNights No. 26 IN A DRAMATIC TURN OF EVENTS I'm posting a self-portrait ? ⠀ So I've been working on pulling myself out of a creative rut. It's been hard times for many on so many levels. For creatives, being denied access to their muse can be as desperate as a lack of oxygen. So I made myself a simple pledge: Take one (1) photograph at night, every night. That's it. For accountability, I added that I must also share one photo per day. Pairing action with accountability is one key to providing a path to your own personal maximum creativity. ⠀ This portrait came about on a night where I was exhausted. Truly wiped out from a hard day's work. But as soon as I started playing with a speedlite, an LED in a softbox and a portable LCD projector I was engrossed and present. I spent 20 minutes playing with the variables. ⠀ I'm not one for vanity. Head shots are a chore. But the process made me forget about why I disliked the goal and placed me firmly in the creative moment. ⠀ If you've read this far, then please consider attending the #NightPhotoSummit Feb 12-14. I am one of many presenting their craft and knowledge. My talk, "Don’t be Afraid of the Dark: Fostering a Creative Night Photography Habit" is going to be a deep dive on what I've learned, and rediscovered. ⠀ Link in Bio or visit

LINK IN BIO Here is the description of one of the talks I am giving during the #NightPhotoSummit Feb 12-14! "If you’re just starting out in night photography, or looking to brush up on your skills, then this presentation is where to start. Matt Hill will walk you through how to get out and get shooting at night with the goal of coming home with images you may not believe are possible. ⠀ He will cover: • basic gear requirements • camera settings • focusing • getting a good exposure • first projects ⠀ Matt will help you prepare for getting out before you leave the house. You’ll learn about why composing an image at night is different than composing in daylight. Also: How long should an exposure be? Why should you care? ⠀ You’ll get an overview of the difference between high ISO noise and long exposure noise, and tactics on how to work with (and around) both. ⠀ Do you have the right lenses? Matt will help you understand what’s good, not so good and great." ⠀ Register today! $399 for 28 presenters, 36 classes, 3 panel discussions, 3 image reviews, 1 film screening. Scores of giveaways, product experts. Camaraderie, community. ⠀ You in? ⠀ #NightPhotography
