I [the Lord] will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. (Psalm 32:8, AMPC)

In the life of a local church, there are seasons of growth, change, and sometimes, uncertainty. As a collective body of believers, we can sometimes feel unsure of our direction—whether it concerns spiritual growth, the finances, staffing, interpersonal relationships, buildings and real estate, attracting new members, or any other area.

It's in these moments that we can turn to the reassuring words of the psalmist: "I [the Lord] will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you."

This divine promise is a testament to God's unwavering commitment to His church—our church. He doesn’t merely watch over individual believers; He is deeply involved in guiding the collective body. The affirmation that He will "counsel you with My eye upon you" speaks volumes. It emphasizes God’s attentiveness to our church, His bride. His counsel is focused, deliberate, and filled with love and purpose for His congregation.

As a church, we are called to move and grow together, united in faith and purpose. And while the journey may bring challenges or moments of doubt, the assurance of God’s guidance remains. His counsel is our compass, directing us towards unity, growth, and deeper spiritual understanding.

To fully embrace His direction, we must come together in prayer, seeking His will with collective hearts that are open and attentive. Through worship, study, and fellowship, we can discern His voice as He leads us to fulfill His will.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your steadfast love and guidance over Mount Hebron. You will instruct and teach us in the way we should go. You will counsel us with Your eye upon us. Give us the grace to follow. In Christ's name, Amen.

Reflection Questions:

1. How can our church better seek God's guidance in our collective decisions and actions?

2. In what areas does our church community need specific guidance from God right now?

3. How can we foster unity in our congregation to ensure we move forward together under God's direction?

An update on me:

Thank you for the prayers, calls, texts, emails, and acts of love you've shown my family and me this week. We know we're cared for -- and feel it. Physically, I've felt a bit better each day. I look forward to being back at church once I've passed the CDC quarantine protocol. Happy Friday! / Kevin
