Learning how to forgive someone | happiness.com

We often cling to wrongs done against us. Strangely, playing the victim offers a peculiar comfort. However, this very act erodes our self-worth and paves the way for further hurt.

When faced with an offense, especially from someone close like a spouse, the Bible offers simple yet transformative advice: Forgive.

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. - Colossians 3:13 (NIV)

This might sound counterintuitive. Society often encourages us to make the offender pay, to remind them constantly of their misdeed. But this approach doesn't align with Biblical teachings. Instead, we're guided to seek God's wisdom, strength, and grace to let go and move forward.

Yes, addressing the hurt is crucial. It might entail a challenging conversation with your spouse or even counseling. Establishing boundaries or setting standards might be necessary to prevent future offenses. But, at its core, the journey is about genuine forgiveness, much like how God forgives us.

The next time resentment bubbles up, remember this: Release the offense. Embrace forgiveness, and watch your marriage grow.
