Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. (Psalm 34:14)

At first glance, these words seem like simple guidance. Yet, their depth resonates especially when our hearts are grappling with jealousy.

Jealousy has a sneaky way of slipping into our consciousness, and is often justified. However, it is a fire that can consume our peace, joy, and relationships. In the face of this emotion, Psalm 34:14 calls us not just to recognize or suppress these feelings but to make an active decision: to turn from evil, to do good, to seek peace, and to fervently pursue it.

Confronting jealousy means acknowledging it without giving it power. Instead of being led by this emotion, we're urged to make a conscious choice to do good. Doing good, in this context, goes beyond just acts of kindness. It means actively replacing negative emotions with positive actions and thoughts. It's a commitment to seeking harmony, not just within ourselves but also with those around us.

Seeking peace and pursuing it is a proactive journey. It's not passive or momentary. It's a relentless chase after tranquility, ensuring that our hearts are aligned with love, grace, and understanding, even when the easier path might be to succumb to envy or rivalry.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, guide my heart when it wavers, and jealousy tries to take hold. Empower me to always choose the path of goodness, turning away from negativity. Let peace be my compass, leading me closer to You and away from the pitfalls of jealousy. Strengthen my resolve to not just seek peace but to ardently pursue it in every aspect of my life. Amen.
