What God has for me is for me

Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. (Psalm 139:16, ESV)

It's natural to occasionally cast longing eyes on someone else’s portion. Perhaps it's their talents, opportunities, relationships, or material blessings that catch our gaze. Envy and jealousy can swiftly sneak into our hearts, causing unrest and discontentment. But there's a grounding truth that we often overlook: What God has for me is for me.

In fact, you could refer to it as your divine supply. That is, God's provision - over the entirety of your life - to meet every need you'll face financially, relationally, emotionally, and in every other area.

Psalm 139:16 paints a vivid image of God's intricate design for each of us. Before we even took our first breath, our Creator had crafted a unique path tailored specifically for us. When we truly understand and embrace this concept, envy loses its grip. Why long for another’s portion when our own is divinely designed and supplied?

However, recognizing this truth requires a daily commitment to trust. Trusting that God's plan, with its twists, turns, valleys, and peaks, is perfectly aligned for our personal growth and His glory. Every time jealousy tries to creep in, remember: someone else's blessings don't diminish yours. God's resources are not finite; His blessings are not in short supply.

By focusing on the assurance that what God has for us is distinctly ours, we free ourselves from the chains of comparison. This liberty not only deepens our relationship with God but also fosters genuine joy in celebrating others' successes without the shadow of envy.

Prayer

Lord, help me to remember that You have carved out a unique path for me, and given me a divine supply. Calm the waves of envy and jealousy that sometimes rise within, and replace them with trust in Your divine plan. Let me celebrate the successes of others, knowing that Your blessings for each of us are abundant and tailor-made. Amen.
