Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching (Luke 22:1)

At the heart of the Christian faith is a profound celebration that draws its roots from ancient traditions: the Passover. As Luke mentions in 22:1, it's the time when the feast of unleavened bread drew near, intertwined with the story of the Israelites' miraculous deliverance from Egypt (see Exodus 12:1-13).

The Blood

The final plague over Egypt was the death of the firstborn. But God provided a way of escape: sacrifice an unblemished lamb and spread its blood on the doorposts of homes. That night, nothing else could save the Israelites — not their lineage, not their deeds, nor their hardships. Only the protective seal of the lamb's blood. The lamb and its sacrificial blood beautifully symbolize Christ. We, too, enter God’s saving grace through the 'blood' – the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. The blood is all that can save you, . Nothing else. Only the blood of Jesus.

The House

The Israelites were not just protected by the blood; they were commanded to remain safely within their homes. Not in the streets or any other place. Their homes became sanctuaries of safety. These homes signify Christ. To be "In Christ" is to be enveloped in the ultimate protection. It's in Him that we find our sanctuary, a refuge from the storms of life. And how do we enter this refuge?

Again, it's through the Blood.

The Bread

Once safely inside, the Israelites were to prepare for their impending departure. Every detail mattered: their attire, their footwear, even their food. They were to bake unleavened bread — bread made without yeast, symbolizing purity and haste. There wasn’t time to wait; they had to be ready to move. Christ is akin to this pure, uncorrupted bread, offering sustenance without the 'leaven' of sin.

In these powerful symbols, we find timeless truths about our relationship with God. We're washed in the sacrificial blood of Jesus, find shelter and communion in Him, and are nourished by the pure bread of His Word.

Lord, as I reflect on the ancient traditions of the Passover, help me see the deep connections in my Christian journey. I'm grateful for the covering of Your blood, the refuge I find in You, and the pure nourishment You offer. May I always remain in You and be ready to follow where You lead. Amen.

1. How does the symbolism of the blood of the Passover lamb deepen your understanding of Christ's sacrifice?

2. In the challenges you face today, how can you ensure that you remain 'In Christ' and draw strength from His protection?

3. How can you incorporate the purity represented by the unleavened bread into your daily life and walk with Christ?
