Doing right won't make you right

We have been made right with God by the blood sacrifice of Christ. (Romans 5:9a, ERV)

Imagine for a moment a scale representing the balance of our deeds. On one side, there’s every mistake, every regret, every wrong turn we've taken. For many, the weight of this side feels heavy, pulling down with a burden that's hard to bear. Now, consider what it would take to balance out this scale. Our good deeds? Our kind words? Our charitable actions? As noble as these are, they fall short of balancing the immense weight of our human shortcomings.

This profound statement found in Romans 5:9a about us being made right with God by the blood sacrifice of Christ isn't just a religious mantra; it's the cornerstone of our faith and hope. It means that the scale doesn't need our efforts to be balanced. Let me repeat that.

The scale does NOT need our efforts to be balanced.

Christ's sacrifice has already tipped it in our favor. The magnitude of this act is staggering: God saw our imbalances, our sins, and instead of turning away, He offered the most precious gift - His own Son. This wasn't because of our worthiness but because of His boundless love.

The blood sacrifice of Christ is an everlasting reminder that we don’t have to carry the weight of our imperfections alone. Moreover, we're not judged by the sum of our actions but by the grace and mercy God offers freely through Jesus.

Prayer:

Lord, I am in awe of the sacrifice Christ made on my behalf. The weight of my mistakes is big, but Your love is bigger. Help me to live each day in gratitude, recognizing that I have been made right not by my deeds but by the precious blood of Jesus. May this truth guide my steps and decisions, drawing me closer to You. Amen.

Reflection Questions:

1. How does it make you feel, knowing that Christ's blood sacrifice has made you right with God?

2. In what areas of your life do you struggle with accepting this gift of grace?

3. How can you live in a way that honors and reflects the sacrifice Christ made for you?
