Earlier this evening I conducted a pre-marital coaching session with two people who love each other, but are very different from one another.

He wanted to be an airline pilot. But, she was afraid he'd be gone too frequently (not to mention the plane might crash). So, he's a real estate agent.

She wants to have a traditional wedding at a church in front of family and friends. He's fine eloping or going to a Justice of the Peace.

He's DC Comics. She's Marvel. (I may have made that up).

Anyway, the point is this: their differences will either be embraced and cultivated so they're a plus in their eventual marriage, or they'll be scoffed at and will become the cause of division in the marriage.

It's not fun to embrace nor cultivate a difference you have with your spouse -- especially when that difference gets on your nerves.

But, that's the beautiful messiness of marriage.

God led you to fall in love with someone who is different from you just enough to somehow attract and repel you.

Embrace the differences. Cultivate them. It will make your marriage work.

ps - What are the biggest differences between you and your mate?

Get my book, The Blessed Marriage. It's great for couples or small groups.
