You have a divine nature

He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries. “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’" (Acts 17:24-28)

The journey to discovering our true identity can often feel like navigating a labyrinth. The world, with its myriad of voices, tries to label us, box us in, and assign worth based on fleeting standards. Yet, our truest essence is not of this world. It's divine.

When we trust in Jesus Christ, a transformative event occurs: we become a new creation. Second Peter 1:4 tells us we now have a piece of the divine—a "divine nature" residing within us. This profound truth can get overshadowed if we allow the flesh, our human desires, and worldly views, to take the front seat.

Consider the imagery in 1 Peter 1:23. Our new nature is described as a seed—a small, seemingly insignificant entity. But within that seed lies immense potential. Given the right nurturing, attention, and environment, it grows into something vibrant and life-bearing.

If we water this seed with the Word of God, provide it with the sunlight of His love, and protect it from the weeds of worldly distractions, it will flourish. Our identity, then, becomes rooted not in the fleeting standards of the world but in the eternal and unchanging nature of God.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for gifting me with Your divine nature. Help me to nurture this precious seed within me, ensuring it's not overshadowed by the demands of the flesh. I desire my identity to be grounded in You and the truth of Your Word. Let Your nature in me flourish and guide my every step. Amen.

Reflection Questions:

1. How have you allowed worldly distractions or desires to overshadow your divine nature?

2. What practical steps can you take daily to nurture the seed of the new creation within you?

3. In moments of doubt or identity crisis, how can you turn to God's Word to reaffirm your true self?
