You can't (and don't have to) impress God

In Romans 3:22-25 (NLT), a profound message resonates – the hope found in Jesus' death, making us right with God. It declares, "We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins."

Take a moment to absorb the depth of these words. They capture the universal truth that, despite our imperfections, faith in Jesus brings us into right standing with God. His grace, freely given, is our pathway to redemption.

That means we don't have to be concerned about ...

  • being good enough
  • giving enough money
  • attending church enough
  • saying enough right words
  • doing enough good deeds
  • reading our bible enough
  • singing enough worship songs and on and on

In other words, we don't have to worry about impressing God to get on His good side. Thanks to Jesus' sacrifice, and through Him, we meet God's glorious standard.

Let me say it again:

, through Christ, you meet God's glorious standard. You're good enough. You measure up. Period.

God, in his grace, freely made you right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed you from the penalty for your sins. Amen.

Prayer

Gracious God, thank you for the hope found in Jesus' sacrificial death, making me right with You. I measure up because of what He did. Your grace astounds me, and I embrace it with a heart full of gratitude. May this hope propel me to live a life that reflects Your love. Amen.

Reflection

1. How does understanding God's grace change the way you view your own shortcomings?

2. What activities are you doing to "impress God?"

3. Take a moment to reflect on the freedom from sin's penalty that comes through faith in Christ.
