Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. (Mark 14:38)

, ever felt enticed by something that gleams with promise? That's the essence of temptation, rooted in the ancient Greek term "skandalon," like a hidden snare waiting to trip you. It's where we get our English word "scandal."

Imagine this scenario: you're on your way, focused and resolute, and then it happens – the very thing that you have a desire for—that is also forbidden by God—is accessible and calling you. Temptation is the invitation to veer off course.

But here's the deal: temptation is a masked choice. It's like a candy store fronting for a moonshine business. What appears harmless is actually a scandal waiting to happen that leads to death of some sort (including physical death). Temptation is a crossroads where desire meets decision.

This week we'll answer four questions about temptation:

1. Is it a sin?

2. What's its source?

3. How do you know when you're being tempted?

4. How do you escape it?

Join me each day to go deeper into this topic, and call out to God each day—all day—for the help you need to yield not to temptation.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, grant me the clarity to dodge the snares that lead me astray. Help me see past the glimmer and make choices that honor you. Let me overcome the allure of the easy route and find resilience in Your truth. Amen.

Reflection Questions:

1. Recall a recent temptation that almost led you astray. How could you have navigated it differently?

2. Are there recurring habits that trip you up? How might you break free from their grasp?

3. What reminder can you set for yourself to pause and reconsider before giving in to temptation's call?
