Disappointed in God?

How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? (Psalm 13:1-2)
Disappointment happens to us all. For all we know, King David could have been disappointed when he wrote the verses above.
While writing this email, I paused to check on a mother and son who were sitting on the sidewalk outside a Starbucks in McKinney. They were visibly shaken because their SUV had just been badly damaged in an accident.
Their evening changed in a moment. Whatever they hoped or expected to do was altered. A change in plans, a damaged car - and the world that creates for them - are all reasons for disappointment.
Disappointment
/disəˈpoin(t)mənt/
noun
A feeling of sadness or dissatisfaction resulting from unfulfilled hopes or expectations.
The non-fulfillment of a desire or expectation.
In yesterday's sermon, I mentioned how we can get disappointed with God.
(Note: one person told me she didn't have the experience of being disappointed with God because she knows he will take care of her. That's possible, and that may be your experience, too. At the same time, I told her to keep looking to see where disappointment with God could be showing up in her life in subtle ways, and I encourage you to do the same. This may help).
When things happen we didn't expect (or didn't happen that we expected), we can experience that God has let us down, didn't show up, or doesn't care about us the way we thought he did.
It's worth noting that these are human feelings, and we're going to continue to feel disappointment when things don't go our way.
When facing disappointment, I encourage you to frame it within this context:
1. You love me
2. You like me
3. I am yours
I'll go deeper with each of these this week as well as looking more into the story of Martha, Mary, and Lazarus.
To keep your heart open to this message, I recommend you rewatch the sermon and/or listen to the song that provided the sermon title.
Have a great Monday!
Kevin
