I called a company today to find out how to add my wife to my membership. I was directed to a line where the company that's apparently running a promotion to get a free medical alert button.

Here's how it went down ..

(Phone rings)

Operator: Hi, my name is Jennifer and I want to tell you about blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So let's get you information about a medical alert button.

Me: I'm actually calling about the club membership, and I was directed to this number.

Operator: I totally understand, and anyone can fall. So let's get you information about a medical alert.

I don't typically hang up on people. It feels rude to me. At the same time, I could see that Jennifer wasn't interested in listening to me. She blew right by why I said I was calling, and went back to her script aka her agenda.

Getting me to act on her promotion was her goal. Not listening to and acting on what I needed.

Pay attention to yourself to see how often you're offering your spouse the equivalent of a free medical alert button instead of listening to what he/she is saying.
