Summary | Pray Like This

In Matthew 6:5-13, Jesus gives us instructions on how to pray. He cautions against the behavior of the play-actors (hypocrites), who pray publicly to gain recognition from others.

Instead, he advises us to pray privately and sincerely, communicating directly with God without seeking the approval of others.

This is important because prayer should be an authentic expression of our relationship with God, rather than a performance for others.

Jesus also warns against piling up a jumbled heap of words, which he says is a practice common among the Gentiles (those without God).

He emphasizes the importance of genuine communication with God, rather than a focus on the quantity or quality of one's words.

Jesus assures us that God already knows our needs before we ask, so there is no need for excessive or insincere language.

Finally, Jesus offers an example of a simple prayer, known as the Lord's Prayer.

This prayer emphasizes the importance of honoring God's name, seeking His will and protection, and asking for forgiveness and provision.

It also recognizes the importance of forgiveness, both in seeking it for yourself and offering it to others.

In conclusion, following Jesus' guidance on prayer can help you cultivate a deeper and more authentic relationship with God.

You can concentrate on giving honor to God's name, seeking his will, provision, and protection, and extending forgiveness to others by engaging in sincere and private prayer, communicating directly with God, and using the Lord's Prayer as a reference.

Have a great week, and I'll chat with you tomorrow morning.
