An open letter to wives

Dear Wives,
I write this letter on behalf of your husband.
He may not tell you this, but he really appreciates it when you encourage his effort.
You see, it's easy to affirm him when you see the result of his effort.
But, for a man, there are times when he needs to know you're proud of him before he's accomplished anything.
Maybe he's like Jesus in this respect.
Matthew 3:17 records that a voice came from heaven saying, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased."
God celebrated and affirmed Jesus because he had just performed some really big miracle, right?
Wrong.
Not to minimize anything Jesus ever did, but all he did was get baptized.
That's it. He walked in the water.
I mean, he didn't even baptize himself -- John did all the work.
Jesus just fell limp in John's arms and let John take him under the water.
Still, as if Jesus had just healed one thousand people at once, God's voice boomed down and let everyone know that he was proud of his Son -- before the healings, before the feedings, before the storm-taming, before the powerful teaching, before the exorcisms, before the cross, before the grave, before the resurrection.
God was proud because Jesus got in the water.
Wives, are you proud of your husband when he "gets in the water?"
You know, when he goes to work ... pays the bills ... helps with homework ... puts gas in the car ... cooks dinner ... helps your parents ... spends time with you, etc.
Are you appreciating your husband's effort and affirming him.
Be like God and show love just because.
Just like Jesus, it just may spur your husband on to go do something world-changing.
Kevin
