A Webinar About Leadership, Culture, and Reducing Turnover

If you're a leader in a healthcare organization -- heck, if you're a leader in ANY organization -- you might very well be struggling with employee turnover.

Next week (Tuesday, Dec 6th), I'm hosting and moderating a webinar (via Value Capture) that has two leaders from Duke Health who will be sharing how they reduced nursing turnover from 75% (higher than the industry average for home health) to just 18%... in ONE YEAR's time.

But this isn't a "home health story" or even a "healthcare story" -- it's a LEADERSHIP story with lessons and ideas that I think are applicable to leaders in any setting.

How did they do it?

To resolve these problems, DHH’s rapid-cycle learning system, rooted in the principle of respect, it involved:

  • Understanding of current condition
  • Leadership behavior changes to quickly respond to staff needs, remove barriers, and coach problem-solving
  • Tiered-huddle management system to elicit and escalate problems, especially safety problems, and vitally, ensure psychological safety so frontline staff and managers raise issues
  • The willingness to shed traditional leadership methods, to experiment, iterate and be perpetual learners

Please join us. If you can't attend live, you'll get a link to the recording sent to you later that day.

Another Webinar on Continuous Improvement

The next week, on December 13th, I'm happy to be moderating a panel discussion webinar that will be hosted by KaiNexus.

Again, I think there are lessons learned to be found here for leaders in any industry.

Managing Transformation Projects, Improvements, and Learning in a Virtual Environment

Join us for a panel discussion with two leaders from UMass Memorial Health (UMMH) as we discuss how they’ve created a culture of continuous improvement at UMMH that has led to more than 100,000 employee ideas being implemented!

That's right ---- 100,000 ideas!!! How have they done it? How have they also managed, tracked, and shared larger improvement projects across the organization? Tune in to learn how... and ask your questions if you attend live!

Still Working on the "My Favorite Mistake" Book

I'm still making progress in writing a book that's based on the stories and lessons learned from my podcast series!

I'm anticipating it will launch in early 2023 (March??), and I'm still doing the initial writing. I've finally had some "ah ha" moments about how to structure the book, so my writing pace is accelerating... and December has more free time to make more progress on this still-untitled book.

Please visit the book's landing page if you have ideas to share with me about what you'd want to get out of the book as a reader - and if you have any suggestions or feedback on the possible title and subtitle.

Seizing the Healthcare Safety Opportunity: Using the “Playbook” of Paul O’Neill

The webinar brought Paul O’Neill’s approach to life for attending leaders by comparing typical practices in healthcare with case examples from Alcoa and the institutions in healthcare that have applied this "playbook."
