It's no secret I love donuts. They're my favorite food item, and I named this newsletter after them for that reason.


But I need to be honest for a minute.


I'm old. Or, rather, I'm not quite old, but no one is falling all over themselves to call me young. I'm at an age where I regularly hurt myself by sleeping on a mattress. I still remember how to use a rotary phone. Sometimes, I go to bed at 8 PM because it just sounds good.


And I'm at the age where foods I love cause me physical pain. Donuts are one such food.


There's a particular type of heartburn I get with donuts. The sugar, the deep-fried goodness, the sheer amount I consume in one sitting...

It's a perfect storm.


I bring this up because today I'm hosting a brunch. By the time this newsletter goes out, I'll be in full-on panic mode, trying to clean my house and get everything organized for guests to arrive.


There will be bagels and coffee. But also, donuts, mimosas, and bloody Marys. (Bloody Maries? Bloody Marees? Honestly, I should know how to make that name plural because I'm the first woman on my mom's side of the family that didn't get Mary or Maria in her name. So I should know how to address various Marys. Maryous?)


(Yes, my mom went rogue with Marisa and really thought outside the box there.)


Anyway, the amount of heartburn I will have from the donuts and beverages will likely start a wildfire.


And if you think I can simply not consume these items, I am so flattered that you think I have any self-control.

I do not.


But you know what I do have? A WHOLE-ASS BOTTLE OF TUMS.


I'm in good hands.
