I know it's summer and school's out and you're probably at an age where you don't often do homework, but you've got some this weekend.

Don't worry. I'm not assigning you some super boring reading or an essay or impossible math problems using formulas you haven't touched since high school.

It's easy homework, but super necessary.

As you take a little moment for yourself this weekend in between running errands or cleaning up the house or working overtime, I want you to think about a recent small victory. And then, I want you to celebrate.

It doesn't have to be a big celebration. It can be as simple as acknowledging you did a thing, and then taking some time to appreciate how good you feel for having done that thing.

There is no shame in putting your head down and getting shit done. In fact, I think that's how a lot of us get through the day. I get up, feed the dog, see my husband off to work, then go to my office and do a little work before my workout. I check in with social media, and then I put my head down and work like the headlines I see on Twitter aren't a sign of the coming apocalypse.

It is very, very hard to be a person right now. And if you feel helpless or like nothing you do matters, you aren't alone. Not by a long shot.

That's why you need to celebrate what you can.

For me, I like to celebrate when I do super basic things. Washing all the dishes before I go to bed so I can wake up with a clean kitchen, doing a workout, making a very off-the-cuff meal that shouldn't be good but is, responding to an email in a timely fashion, or even when I do a load of laundry AND fold it AND put it away all in the same day.

You don't have to only celebrate the big stuff. I mean, you should, but you should also celebrate the small stuff.

Acknowledge you did a thing and be proud. You're living in a truly bizarre time, my friend. And every time you do a normal thing despite the general chaos around you, you are engaging in a political act of rebellion.

You are unshakeable, like the North Star, a guidepost for others to help them find their way through the darkness. That is definitely something worth celebrating.
