Practical ways to slow down (without falling behind)

Oct 12, 2025 1:01 am

Mamas,

Have you ever felt the pressure of needing to do more and do it faster or better? Sometimes life feels like too much, too many things, too many expectations (including our own!).

As a society, we need to reset our belief that doing more = doing better. To recognise that we cannot continue this breakneck speed of life. It seems like in our "modern times" people are more stressed, overwhelmed and burnt out than ever before.

Slowing down is NOT falling behind. Slowing down allows our mind, body and spirit to refresh and revitalise, so that when we are rested, we can truly achieve that which calls to us. But always, slowing down first is a vital component of life.

The thought of slowing down might send chills down your spine to begin with. You might feel like without constant activity and doing, your kids will get left behind, your career will suffer, your ability to be the best Mama you can be will falter.

And yet.

The one thing I can guarantee is if you continue to push and push and push yourself to do more, you will head into overwhelm and then burn out. ANd once you get there, it is a long road back.

Let's start slowing down with some practical tips:

  1. set a limit on how many after school activities your kids can sign up for
  2. once a week, double or triple the amount of food you're cooking and freeze the leftovers so you can start building a stash of prepared meals for those days when cooking is a step too far
  3. drop your expectations on your home looking like it belongs in a magazine spread
  4. set yourself a limit on doom scrolling social media - you can do this with a timer or by setting up limits on these apps directly on your phone

These are all simple things that will help you get more time back in your life immediately.

Which one will you try? Reply with 1, 2, 3 or 4!

Bye for now,

Michelle
