Instagram Logo❓What if... ❓ Got a session with a Coach who is just certified and told me she's keen to do parental coaching. . Well, this is absolutely great to be guided by your passion and fantastic to be clear about your niche when you want to work as a Coach. . Yet, parental coaching is one of the most difficult types of coaching, because: - ? as a human being, the only thing you cannot afford to fail is your children => parents are extremely sensitive to any feedback on their children and themselves - ? any single parental coaching involves emotions at a certain point of time => the Coach needs to be very comfortable with emotions her/himself and know how to handle them well - ? projection and transferance are almost impossible to avoid => as a Coach, we need to be cautious not to be taken as a role model and yet the very first question parents will ask is 'how many children do you have?' then 'how is going for you with them?' => as a parent, the Coach needs to be very cautious not to let the coaching influencing her/his parenting style unconsciously . Parental coaching often leads to requests to help families in distress, parents about to divorce and kids struggle as much as their parents. And that kind of coaching goes way beyond coaching on parenting skills. . My point is not to discourage any Coach to do parental coaching, it is a meaningful area to coach and I say this from experience with several years of parental coaching myself. Yet, if you go for that, you need: - additional training in emotional intelligence - extreme care in contracting - systematic regular support with a coaching supervisor to deal with difficult situations, to ensure you're neither influencing instead of coaching, nor shaken to the core by what you witness. . Is any parental Coach eager to share her/his experience too? . . Enjoy coaching! . Marianne, your coaching supervisor & mentor . .
