What the free tools can't do

Over the last three weeks I've shared a lot of free tools.


The Hiring Signal. The Wall guide. Three live workshops.


They do one thing well: show you where the gap is. Where the signal doesn't match the substance. Where the translation breaks down.


But showing you the gap and closing it are two different things.


Building a target list of 15-20 companies where your specific experience is a competitive advantage — that's not something a diagnostic can do. Writing outreach messages that get responses from decision-makers who've never heard of you. Sitting across from you in a mock interview and catching the exact moment you start hedging instead of leading. Building a negotiation strategy that accounts for your specific leverage and your specific number.


That's the work. And it's the work I do with a small group of designers every month.


Some designers use the free tools, see where the gap is, and close it themselves. That's a real path and the tools are built for it.


Others see the gap and realize they need someone who's done this 50+ times sitting across from them saying "here, not there." That's a different path. And it's the one I built The Backdoor for.
