How Buccaneer's OL Coach Trains His Tackles in Pass Pro

Coach -
In 2020 the key to the Bucs success and a Super Bowl win was protecting the Quarterback (Tom Brady then) and getting the ball out quickly. After that Super Bowl win, Offensive Line Coach Joe Gilbert spoke about “Fundamentals and Techniques in Protecting Tom Brady” at the COOL Clinic.
Specifically, the offensive tackles need to do their job. Coach Gilbert believes the three components for an OT’s success are “Set Line, Punch, and Mirror.” (click on image for video):

Keeping the hands tight is crucial in the punch. Using a slightly deflated volleyball helps train the tight hands to be able to execute a tight hands punch. He explains that in this video (click on image for video):
One Technique he uses in Pass Pro is the Pillar Punch. It allows your offensive linemen to play long and keep defensive linemen at a distance while stopping them with a strong punch.
Coach Gilbert strongly believes in teaching the Pillar Punch which he learned from Browns assistant OL Coach Scott Peters. He explains and illustrates with drill video how he has adopted the punch here (click on image for video):
Coach Gilbert also presented at Lauren’s First and Goal. LFG is always packed with great offensive line coaches from all level of college, the NFL and CFL.
