The weather here in Houston is cooling off. For the next week, daytime high temperatures might not break 90 F. (32 C if you live outside the US). Still not comfortable, but it's a reminder that the seasons are turning, even here.

Despite the term "beach reads," book sales peak in the autumn. Which makes sense for a few reasons. The kids are back in school, so people travel less and have more time to read. The weather turns cold and rainy in lots of places, which leads people to stay indoors. Or people have developed a Pavlov's dog correlation between pumpkin spice lattes and books, and if they drink one, they feel an urge to read a book.

(Random aside: lots of people love or hate pumpkin spice lattes. Am I alone in being indifferent to them? Let me know.)
