Science fiction and fantasy - from Middle America to the ends of the Universe

Hi ,

Happy Saturday morning! I hope you're having a relaxing one. Are you sipping coffee in the comfy chair by the window, checking your email before you play Wordle? Me too. And if you're not in North America, enjoy your evening pint in Australia or New Zealand, or your tea time in the UK.

You'll agree that I don't flood your inbox. Usually, I'll email every two weeks with regularly scheduled news. My email yesterday was like that, letting you know about the release of the latest Portia Oakeshott, Dinosaur Veterinarian short story, Kunbarra and the Whiteants.

It just happens that now is a busy time of year. I think I've signed all the forms for my kids' after school activities, sports teams, and school laptop. I'm pushing to finish writing the first book in a new space opera series, with publication some time in early 2023.

(Not-so-random question: Have you ever backed a science fiction novel on Kickstarter? Would you if you got a discount off the list price and the chance to read it a month before anyone else? Hit reply and let me know).

With all that's going on, I hadn't gotten around to mentioning some other publishing news, including some promotions. Let's jump in so you can leave email behind and figure out that five-letter word with an S and and F in it.

New Story in Analog

A story entitled "Return Blessing" is in the September/October 2022 issue of Analog. It's in the same universe as my novel Azureseas: Cantrell's War, but is much lighter in tone.

Jeffrey just wants to spend his father's money, drinking and partying in human zone on Valoduria. Why won't the planet's intelligent insectoid aliens let him?

Check the magazine rack at your local bookstore, or go to Analog's website to pick up your copy.

Also, it's my fifth byline in Analog, and first with a two-page illustrated title spread!

Kobo has Exclusives Too

While Amazon owns the lion's share of the ebook market, I respect your choice to read the books you want from the bookstores you want. If you shop at the Kobo store in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, or the US, the entire Confederated Worlds trilogy is part of the August 25% Off Boxset Sale. Follow the link, enter the promo code at checkout, and you can get three novels for less than US$7. Nice deal!

A thousand years from now, while Earth sleeps in virtual reality, three polities—the Confederated Worlds, the Unity, and the Progressive Republic—strive to connect the scattered, terraformed worlds of humankind by artificial wormholes. When they meet, they clash, in a decades-long struggle of arms that will embroil every human world, in which dedication to duty liberates worlds—and oneself.

The first three novels in The Confederated Worlds series are now available in one volume.

TAKE THE SHILLING The Confederated Worlds implanted in his brain the skills to make him a soldier. Tomas had to learn for himself how to survive interstellar war.

OPERATION IAGO The Confederated Worlds lost the war. Can Lt. Tomas Neumann win the peace against elusive, deceptive foes out to turn the Confederated Worlds against itself?

A BODYGUARD OF LIES Assigned to the halls of power, only Capt. Tomas Neumann can save the Confederated Worlds from the ultimate treachery.
