Online workshop and other help for writers đź–‹

Howdy, folks! I have a free class now available online (at your own pace with recorded videos). I’ve also been blogging about some tools that help me stay physically comfortable while writing and reading. Plus I have an article posted online. If any of that interests you, read on.

I am testing a new site that will let me run courses myself instead of through an organization. To check out how it works (and how well it works), I uploaded videos from a 2021 class along with the handouts. I’m making this class free since it’s an experiment – and I hope if you take it, you’ll let me know how well the system works and if you run into any problems. If this system seems good, I’ll start adding classes, such as Advanced Plotting and Writing for the Educational Market.

You Can Write for Children: Learn about children’s publishing—opportunities and challenges, genres, age ranges, book and magazine markets, and resources to keep you going. Enroll here. It’s set up as one pre-work handout followed by three weekly videos with handouts, but you can take it at your own pace.

Please email me (you can just reply to this email) if you find any glitches or have an opinion on how well the system works. You can also email me if you’d like to arrange a critique of any work you produce. (See my critique rates and recommendations here.) If you get one thing on this list, I recommend the WAOAW Seat Cushion, which has helped my back a lot for under $30.

Check out the Ergonomics topic on my blog for a variety of items that reduce neck strain, back pain, and other discomfort that can come from spending a lot of time at a desk or even sitting on the couch reading. Many of these I use myself, while others came from discussion at a writing retreat where we shared our favorite items.

Finally, I wrote a guest post on “How To Write A Children’s Book” for a site called Booklinker. Find it here if you want to check it out. Or grab my book You Can Write for Children for a much more thorough overview.
