Southernism of the Week: “Well that just dills my pickle!” 🥒
That means the person is happy. Turning cucumbers into pickles is a reason to celebrate. (Although some people use the phrase when irritated. No statement is so confusing that it can't be made more so.)
Doug is pleased to announce his next novel, Totally Rad Wormhole! It’s the story of two nerds from the eighties who accidentally open a wormhole to today. They go to their high school reunion and meet their future selves. Horrified at what they’ve become, they set out to change their fate. It will be available October 1st.
Here's a ferret in a sweat shirt, just because.
Kris’s Voice Recognition Mistake of The Day: "Kraken arm across her shoulders...."
That would be a very different book from the story I'm writing, which merely has a person's arm draped across her shoulders.
It still feels like summer in California (Doug) and New Mexico (Kris). Here's a scene from NM.
How about where you are?
Kris’s Bonus Voice Recognition Mistake: "I have a friend who had many food allergies but has discovered he can eat eggs if he gets the eggs from pastor chickens."
I meant pastured chickens – those who get to forage in the grass – but now I'm enjoying picturing chickens leading church congregations. They would fit in my friend Molly’s picture book, Chickens Do Not Take Over Halloween.
Southern Treat of the Week: Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya sounds good for summer or fall. “Jambalaya is a hallmark of the Creole cuisine. It is a versatile dish that combines cooked rice with a variety of ingredients that can include tomatoes, onion, green peppers and almost any kind of meat, poultry or shellfish.” Here’s a recipe (from Southern Living).
