Hi ,
This week I cut almost as much as I added to Once upon a Betrothal. It's still in a rough state, but I now have a finished first draft. This is the stage where the real magic can happen since it's ready for developmental editing. From my experience with my other books, I tend to edit up, so the fact that it's only around 35 thousand words right now isn't a bad thing. By the time I'm done, it will probably be close to the length of Once upon a Shoe (without checking, I think that was about 52k). If you're interested in reading an unfinished version, I've uploaded the entire rough draft to my Ream. This isn't a free option, but it's available if you want to try it.
The weather here has been pretty nasty lately. We're finally getting the snow we should have gotten months ago. So aside from a funeral I attended so my daughter could support her bestie, I've avoided leaving the house as much as possible. Hopefully, I can get down to the library sometime this week to check out the possibility of using their equipment for audiobooks.
If you didn't do this already, hit reply and tell me what is your favorite thing about spring to enter this month's giveaway for a $5 Amazon gift card.
I wanted to start sharing character profiles for Once upon a Betrothal in this email. I've been playing with some AI art on a few different apps, but I've been struggling to get pictures that I'm happy with. If you follow me on Ream, I plan to post some of the images soon if you want to see what I've come up with so far. I know AI is a bit controversial, but it's the only way I can think of to offer some of the things I've been wanting to. My own abilities wouldn't cut it and I can't justify the budget that would be required to commission an artist or buy stock photos, assuming something that fits is available.
Hopefully, I can have something fun to share next week for the characters. Instead, I put together this graphic for Once upon a Betrothal. It's my first attempt at anything like this, so please let me know what you think.

"SCORCHING ENEMIES-TO-LOVERS ROMANCE! I need book 2 now!" - USA Today Bestselling Author Laura Thalassa
Ruthless. Bloodthirsty. Killer.
And now? Her husband.
Ilsevel knows exactly how brutal the fae raiders are. She watched them attack the holy shrine of her god, slaughter the priests, and drag her sister away screaming into darkness.
So when she’s forced up onto the auction block to be sold off as a warbride to the highest bidder—and when the chilling warlord, Taarthalor, pushes his way to the front of the crowd and lays down an outrageous bid—Ilsevel fears her nightmare is only just beginning.
Taar took one look at the fiery little human, and something in him sparked. He cannot explain it. He knows only that he will not see her sold off to one of the soulless monsters trying to outbid each other for a chance to use and discard her soft, womanly flesh.
If that means binding himself to her by marriage, so be it.
Can this dark king convince his bride not to murder him in his sleep before he can decide what to do with her? Or do the gods have other plans in store for the captive princess and her terrifying new husband?
WARBRIDE is book 1 of a dual point-of-view (his and hers) forced marriage fantasy trilogy with a dangerous, brooding hero, kiss-or-kill vibes, and swift-to-ignite steam that will leave you begging for more. If you love watching a cold-hearted fae warlord discover his one weakness just might be the spitfire princess who drives him crazy . . . THIS is the book for you.
Perfect for fans of Elise Kova, Laura Thalassa, and Danielle L. Jensen
The Void by Luna Fox and F. Lowberry
Ludovic Stone was the arms-bearer and right-hand of Archmage Alastor an Ulbrecht and Sorceress Lianna; protecting them throughout the years from political threats and standing by their side through the hardships they faced due to their stature.
A failed assassination attempt against Lianna prompted Alastor to act and perform a grievous ritual to tap onto the power of the Void, the dark forces beyond the universe. Has he betrayed his friends and family to gain power? Can Lianna stop Alastor before it’s too late? Will she and Ludovic be able to save the world from the evil warlock he has become? What if it was all just a lie?
To Break a Silence by Lydia Mae
A siren's song holds power over skies and men.
Stella has never seen the sky until the day she speaks her oaths and is brought above the surface. After her first encounter with a land-walker's ship forces her to sing up a storm that pulls a prince into the water, she chooses to rescue him.
When Stella's blossoming affection for the prince is threatened by another, she makes a choice to trade her fins for legs. The price: phantom glass in her throat if she dares to use her voice and in her feet when she walks.
Captain Dillon Carvy is determined to have his revenge after a siren’s song costs him his ship and his favored position as the prince's captain. While searching for signs of the siren, Dillon discovers a struggling maiden instead. Pulling a silent girl from the sea, he sees the perfect opportunity to gain his position back.
A case of mistaken identity puts Stella right where she wants to be in the prince's palace. But unless she breaks her silence, continuing her charade may cost her the happiness she hopes for, and quite possibly her life.
To Break a Silence is a retelling of A Little Mermaid. It is one of twelve novellas in The Shattered Tales, a collection of twelve fractured retellings of your favorite fairy tales. They can be enjoyed in any order, so fall in love with the swoony sweet romance, magical adventures, and tale-shattering twists one happily-ever-after at a time!
