A study published in the International Journal of Sports and Exercise Psychology found that there are THREE types of support that influence our results:
๐ค Emotional support: can help you START and MAINTAIN a health and fitness routine.
This could mean having someone to commiserate withโฆ or someone to cheer you on!
๐ค Practical support: doesnโt necessarily help you START a new routine, but it can help you keep up a routine once youโve got the ball rolling (like a walking buddy you meet up with every weekend).
๐ค Negative support: can lead you to do LESS! This is when certain people (we all know them!) try to talk you out of your new habits so THEY donโt have to change.
If you donโt have the other two kinds of support, itโs easy to let the negative support sabotage your progress!
