The Reason Your Body Doesn't React as Fast as It Used To
Jun 24, 2026 12:46 am
Happy Tuesday, !
Body slower and not reacting the same way that it used to?
There's a specific reason for that, and it's fixable ๐
Most people think slowing down is just part of aging.
And it starts declining earlier than you think - even if you still feel "strong."
In the fitness world, it's called "power."
Here's what that really means for your daily life. ๐
You notice it in moments like these:
๐จ Going to catch yourself before you stumble.
๐จ Reaching fast to grab something that's falling.
๐จ Hurrying across a busy street.
Your body just doesn't fire up as fast as it used to.
Here's what's going on:
The muscle fibers responsible for quick, explosive movement (fast-twitch fibers) shrink first.
So you can still lift weightsโฆ
โฆbut feel slower and less responsive than you used to be.
โกThe good news: power responds to trainingโฆ
Even in your 50s, 60sโฆ beyond.
You just have to train for it on purpose ๐
1. Fast sit-to-stands
Sit down โ stand up as quickly as you can (safely)
Lower back down with control
8-10 reps
This teaches your body to fire fast again.
2. Quick step-ups
Use a low step or a stair
Drive through your foot with intent - not lazily
You are teaching your nervous system to recruit muscle fast.
3. Ball (or pillow) slams
Lift โ throw down with force
Bonus: great way to burn off stress, too!
Also counts:
Dancing
Pickleball
Tennis
Golf
If it requires quick reactions, you're training the right system.
It is never too late to get this back.
