The Untold Story

Aye yai yai ,

"I don’t know what I’m doing wrong,” she told me, her voice shaking. “No matter what I say, no matter how careful I am, it’s never right. He tells me I’m worthless… that nobody else would ever love me. And I believe him.”

I’ve heard this story more times than I can count. Sometimes the details change; sometimes it’s a man sitting across from me, sometimes a woman, but the ache is always the same.

The confusion. The shame. The desperate attempt to “do better” for someone who keeps moving the line.

And almost every time, they don’t even realize what’s happening to them has a name: emotional abuse.

Abuse isn’t always about bruises. It isn’t always visible. It can look like constant criticism, controlling who you see and where you go, unpredictable mood swings, or being isolated from friends and family.

It can leave you walking on eggshells, apologizing for things you didn’t do, shrinking yourself just to survive.

I know that you're reading this and thinking, "Oh, he/she is weak! or Why did they choose a partner like that?" "How does someone get trapped in this?"

But it happens more than we realize. I've worked with a 57-year-old professional who manages hundreds of people, yet still endures constant criticism from her mother; an 80-year-old woman whose adult son controls where she can go; and employees who face bullying, harassment, and impossible demands at work.

It happens to women and men. Abuse does not discriminate.

If you're reading this and something feels familiar, I want you to know: you are not broken. You are not unlovable. You are not alone.

Sometimes the hardest part is simply naming what's happening. Other times, it's imagining that life could feel different.

That's why I created the Soul Story Retreat — a safe space where people who've lived through emotional abuse can finally exhale. Where you can sit with others who truly understand, without having to explain or justify your experience.

Here's what happens: We gather in a confidential, supportive environment where you can explore your story at your own pace. Through gentle group discussions, healing exercises, and moments of quiet reflection, we begin untangling the lies you've been told about yourself. We work together to rediscover the strength and worth that were always there, even when they felt buried.

You'll leave with practical tools for setting boundaries, recognizing your own voice again, and taking steps toward the life you deserve — whatever that looks like for you.

If you've been questioning your relationship...

if you've been wondering why you feel like a shell of yourself...

if some part of you is ready to step out of survival mode and explore what healing might feel like

— I want you to know that taking even this moment to consider it takes tremendous courage.

You don't have to carry this alone anymore.

If this resonates with you, I'd love to tell you more about how the retreat works and answer any questions you might have. There's no pressure — just an invitation to learn more about a space designed with your safety and healing in mind.

You can reply to this email with 'Tell me more' and I'll send you additional information, or call/WhatsApp me at +1(876)849-7067, for a conversation about whether this might be right for you. Do whatever feels more comfortable for you. Either way, there's no commitment. All inquiries are completely confidential.

Our next Soul Story Retreat is October 25-27, 2025, in Jamaica.

Take care of yourself,

Dr H
