Take a Mental Break - Here's Why It's Important!

👋Hello ,
I hope your weekend is off to a great start!
I’m just jumping into your email to remind you to take a break. Today is World Rainforest Day. I had planned to camp in the great outdoors with 50 young people to celebrate this day. However, we are having lightning storms.
The rain I can deal with. The lightning is a NO. NO. So instead a small group of us will be crashing at a friend’s house eating mangoes, playing games, and watching movies.
Taking a mental break is important.
At least once per quarter, I spend a few days camping with a group of young people and volunteering in various outdoor activities. Above is a picture of us setting up tents at our last camp. This is a refreshing escape from our daily routines filled with stress and tension. Instead, we spend a weekend filled with laughter, storytelling, and the simple joys of nature.
Being surrounded by the enthusiasm of the youth and the tranquility of the outdoors reminds me how important it is to step away from our busy schedules and take a breather.
Whether it's a hike in the woods, a quiet afternoon with a book, or simply unplugging from our devices for a few hours, time spent relaxing can do wonders for our mental health.
Here are a few reasons why taking a mental break is so important:
1. Rejuvenation: It helps refresh our minds and bodies, making us more productive and creative when we return to work.
2. Stress Reduction: Stepping away from the hustle and bustle reduces stress and prevents burnout.
3. Improved Focus: Regular breaks can enhance our focus and concentration, leading to better performance.
4. Mental Health: Taking time for ourselves is essential for maintaining a healthy mental state.
Now, if you can tie in relaxing with some form of volunteerism or giving back to the community so much the better!
So, , can you make time this weekend or even during the week to take a mental break? It doesn't have to be a weekend camping trip (though I highly recommend it!). Even a small pause in your day can make a significant difference.
Remember, taking care of ourselves allows us to bring our best selves to our work and to those around us.
Tell me, how do you typically spend your weekends?
Best,
