Hello ,
What is your favorite color? Blue, Yellow, Red, Black?
Was it always so?
Oh yes, I know, I am right up in your business aren’t I?
But this is the thing; color reflects not only your mood but also your character. In fact many say that the colors you wear reveal who you really are. So there, let’s take a look at what your clothing is revealing about you.
According to David Zyla, author of the book “Color Your Style”, "Even if your wardrobe is filled with clothes of a variety of colors and shades, there is always the color that you give a greater preference to because you feel more comfortable and confident in it. It is the very color that reflects your character."
Had you thought about it that way?
Let’s look at the color black.
We’ve all been told that black is a staple in a professional’s wardrobe. It adds elegance, a touch of style and symbolizes power.
What many people don’t realize is that black also indicates sensitivity and excitability. So some people wear black so that they can hide their emotions. The color allows them to blend into the background and hid from the spotlight.
It is said that people who prefer purple are sensitive and emotional; unpredictable and difficult to deal with!
But maybe your favorite color is blue.
The University of British Columbia says that blue has a calming effect and associated the color with intelligence, trust, efficiency, and tranquility. Psychologist Lisa Mendel, says blue indicates confidence and reliability. But other people say blue is a depressing and somber color and that indicates a lack of emotion.
It is said that gray is the color of balance; it is neither dark nor bright. If a person has a lot of gray clothing it usually means they want to remain invisible. This neutrality allows you to be as quiet as a mouse even when in full sight. Do you obey all the rules, never object or get engaged in conflict?
Red is thought to be the color of passion and power. But Professor Caliche said that persons who favor red are also addiction prone!
Yellow on the other hand reflects self-confidence, positivity and optimism. However, it could also compromise your confidence and mean you are anxious and fearful. Cowards are often referred to as being yellow.
Sometimes, after we have undergone a sexual attack on our person, the shame and embarrassment that we feel makes us more reserved and self-conscious. And so that shows in our dress. Even as we come to terms with the attack. We move out of the numbness to yes, It happened.
We then try to hide to protect ourselves from being in the limelight. We don’t want to be noticed. And so the colors we wear may change or darken. The style of clothing becomes looser, less close fitting, less sexy and more reserved. We may wear pants instead of dresses, or tight clothing so that it will be harder to rip off the next time, baggy clothing so that we look ugly and unattractive. Dresses down to our ankles so that we look like a nun.
The reverse is also true. We may say to ourselves, since they think I am a slut anyway, why don’t I just show them? Or you may think, I am not worthy and basically put yourself up for sale – in different ways.
Rape/abuse is about the exertion of power. Your dress then did not cause the attack. Your dress now will not prevent another attack.
You are worthy of being seen as beautiful and powerful and sexy and brilliant.
Never forget that.
You are worthy.
Everyone reacts differently. As you look at your wardrobe, are you hiding in your colors or style?
Holding you safe,
Reminding you that you are awesome.
