The Stories Fear Tells Us (And Why They’re Lying to You)

Jul 17, 2025 12:01 pm

Dear ,

When you registered for the Soul Story Retreat, you mentioned struggling with self-doubt and fear of failure. I want you to know that you’re not alone. You’re not too late. And you are not broken.

Fear’s Favorite Lies

Fear is a master storyteller. It speaks in a voice that sounds so much like your own, you start believing it.

You've likely heard some of its greatest hits:

  • “You’re not qualified enough.”
  • “You’ll embarrass yourself if you try.”
  • “Other people can do this—not you.”
  • “You’ve already failed before.”

But these are not truth.

They’re survival stories. Protective, yes—but also outdated. They were never meant to define you.

What Your Presence Already Says

The fact that you signed up despite the inner noise tells me that:

You’re brave in ways you don’t even recognize yet.

You’re hungry for something real.

You’re standing at the edge of a story that no longer fits, reaching for something more honest, more alive.

That , means that you are ready to become.

What We’ll Do Together in Portland

This weekend (July 18–20), we’ll slow the world down long enough to hear the truth underneath the fear. We’ll explore:

  • How to recognize fear without letting it drive your life
  • How your so-called “failures” contain the seeds of your future strength
  • How to rewrite the narrative from “I’m not enough” to “I am rising”
  • How to trust the voice of the real you—the one that’s been whispering beneath the noise all along

You don’t need to be “ready” to come.

You just need to come with your truth.

, when you said, “I want to exhale,” my whole body understood.

You’ve been holding your breath. Bracing. Waiting for life to give you permission.

Let this be that permission.

Let this be the moment you say yes to yourself.

We’ll be waiting for you, journal in hand, hearts open.

See you in Portland. Come exactly as you are.

With deep respect,

Dr Sandra Hamilton

P.S. You don't need to "conquer" your fear to begin. You just need to walk with it into the room. We’ll take it from there.
