Uplifting Reflection: This track was inspired by a video I helped set the soundtrack to for @dwellmagazine. Noah Kalina contacted me and asked if I had any musical pieces available. I sent over some minute melodies. Then he sent me a few photos of the mini documentary he was working on and this melody came forward. I was inspired by the pictures and video Noah sent over and the view that led me to create something custom. Minute melody #4 Contained Love . Artwork by: @greatermusic . I wanted to tell you about the meaning behind creating the art for 'Contained Love'. ‘Contained Love’ was the first piece I started creating after having our first event here at the Greater Impact House. As amazing as the experience was of opening up the first viewing of the home over the weekend, I was faced with a phone call from my brother that shut me down when I started my week. . On October 14th 2019, my younger sister Nadia took her life. I had to step back and go inward to comprehend this major life shift of not being able to see or hear from her in this lifetime again. . Beginning the artwork for ‘Contained Love' was a way for me to work through some of the heavy trauma my mind was experiencing. . I started the piece at the Detroit Institute of Arts about a month later in November. There was a public artist demonstration that my partner Karianne was exhibiting with encaustic paintings. . I brought an aged cutting board that I had used for the past 8 years and felt it was time to utilize it. . I found magazine clippings that were offered at the art demonstration and brought several pieces of wood from nature walks. . For those that don’t know, Encaustic is a form of art making that uses hot wax which is burned into the inlay as a way of preserving the art. After starting the art at the DIA, I took the time to finish it up at the Greater Impact House when the pandemic and stay home order was put into place in March 2020. . I decided to start creating a minute melody everyday until the order was lifted. . The first minute melody draft started back on March 17th, 2020 . After sifting through submissions to match with the melodies, I feel like I have a cohesive blend of artistic expression to accompany the first twenty-two minute melodies.
