Don't you just hate having all these choices?
Sometimes I think life would be so much simpler if there was only one way to go, but then I'd complain about the lack of choice. Unpleasable!
Choices, so many choices.
And it gets worse when there's things like aisles in places or two of the same thing. Which is it? DVD or Bluray? Netflix or Disney? It's paralysing! When it comes to making a decision we're always plagued by anxiety over whether we've picked the right choice. Hindsight has 20/20 vision but forsight is clinically blind.
Getting published is no different. Traditionally, you'd have to hand your manuscript round to agents, then an agent would shop it round to publishers who would then gamble on how much they want to spend on your ability to put words in the right order. (Good that doesn't happen with texts or directions). But now we've got the why's and wherefore's to do it ourselves. DIY, indie, self-published. It's about taking full control over the creative process.
They say (Who's they?) that there's a book in each of us. Or over sixty if you're like Stephen King. And getting those words down on the page is a feat in itself with it's own myriad choices of genres, disciplines and techniques. But getting those words from your head and into someone's hands is an entirely different feat.
That part I know a little something about. There's so many choices from who to go to and what programs or companies to use. So I've put together a selection of some of my favourites over on my website along with a yummy discount. So if you've got that one book, either an idea or full manuscript (or several), check out my recommendations that'll make your journey to published author just that little bit easier.
It's not exhaustive and there's many more services available. Shoot me an email with any recommendations or questions.
And one of the golden rules of writing is to read a lot. To help you in that regard there's a couple of authors here that have got some of their work for you to read, for free.
There's plenty here to keep you going. And I know I've made your life worse by introducing even MORE choices. I'm sure you'll find these resources helpful. Next time it's not going to be any better. There's even more goodies coming including a cover reveal for my upcoming novel.
I'll see you there.
Have a great read!
