When you walk into a bookstore (or Kindle sales page), do you ever feel overwhelmed at the sheer volume of volumes? From your Nicholas Sparks to Brandon Sanderson, the brain melts at the choices.

The mind has left the building


When you find yourself running out of stamina somewhere around the fifth Malazan or 22nd Sparks, you just need to take a break and unwind. Short stories are great for that. And from the author's perspective it's an excellent way of honing ones craft. Stephen King, George Martin, and Andrezj Sapowski just to name a few, have published many an appetizer complete with beginning, middle and end.


I'm a big fan. It's a bit like binge-watching your favorite TV program. You long to get to the end but in bite size increments. My own Ranger series takes this premise and runs with it, I love having a platform to try out new ideas.
