What tears upart can bring us together.
The world is a messy place don't you think? We can't go a day without some new division showing itself amongst people. And we see that reflected in fiction. A lot of great conflict has come from the things that separate us; gender, background, religion, status.
All that misery aside, some of mankind's greatest accomplishments stem from people coming together. Exploration is a great example. We've sailed seas, traversed deserts and jungles, climbed mountains and ventured into space. There's names and faces we associate with all these events, but the reality is it took hordes of people to make it happen. Many we don't know or remember.
Fiction envisions many different worlds, some suffering from devision while others are being brought together. Star Trek is an early example. An on-screen ensemble of multi-racial and cultural members working together for the betterment of each other and humanity as a whole. It's a grand prospect that presents some interesting dilemnas when it comes to story. Like if there's no conflict anymore, where does the conflict come from?
Yet here it is. A show that's been around over 50 years and whose stories have been told in every medium and on every platform out there!
That's a nice segway into some promos that I'm a part of this month. I've got together with other like-minded promoters of everyone's differences to bring a lineup themed around our differences.
And we've got some fantasy and sci-fi filled with monsters and aliens.
Both of these promos are free and last to the end of the month. These should kickstart your summer and wet your whistle for what's to come.
Update - I've been working hard behind the scenes to put together some of my own material to bring out. I've got a couple more Ranger stories coming soon and a cover reveal for my debut novel, A Pale Winter. So keep your eyes peeled and watch this space.
Have a great read and a great week! Take care!
