Sometimes you have to wade through a lot of snow to get to the cabin. Everything is a process and often times there are no shortcuts. Optimizing, automating, and outsourcing is a journey with no end. You never reach a place called productivity. You keep optimizing, automating, and outsourcing until you reach a milestone, and then you set your sights on the next one because this work is never finished and it's not supposed to be. We need challenges not successes.

The reality was that a chess master sat secretly inside moving the pieces around and usually winning. Sometimes you have to duct tape together a bunch of ugly parts in order to test a process, work out the links and create the final optimization. Don't worry about a process that looks ugly' or costs a lot for money, while you are refining it. Get it going, then get it good.

How many can you do? I'm at 16. This is the manifesto of the competent person. Starting a business is not one of them yet everyone of these skills applies to the entrepreneur. The important thing everyone needs to understand is that these skills will carry you through life and ultimately fill your cup. Your business is a mere strategic byproduct if your competencies and not a source of fulfillment.

I work as a volunteer EMT with the East Clinton Fire District. I have the incredible honor to work with an extremely dedicated crew of first responders. I love this work more than anything I've ever loved doing. In a small town I get to answer a lot of calls, develop relationships with repeat patients, and of course, outfit my truck with lots of fun gear ? As entrepreneurs there is a very small limit to what extent a business can provide us with true fulfillment. Make sure to find the thing that fills that void. I consider myself extremely lucky to have found mine.
