Survive the Riptide

We Moved!

My family and I moved to Princeton, NJ and we couldn't be happier. Access to all sorts of wonderful things, everyone has their own room, and I've even got a full woodworking shop. I joined the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad to continue my love of all things EMS. I hope you enjoy this months newsletter.

I Spoke

I travelled for a speaking engagement for the first time in over a year and a half. I went to Milwaukee to speak to YPO Wisconsin, I breezed through security with TSApre, wore my hardcore blue-blocking sunglasses on the plane because the light is awful, booked a hotel with HotelTonight, and carried zero luggage thanks to this jacket.

The Inflatable Business

A few weeks ago I had a simple idea...what if you could take the automations I have created over the years, push a button, and have those processes up and running in your own business? I thought about it like an inflatable mattress, throw it down, hit the button, and get down to business. So many great business ideas never get off the ground because the founder gets stuck in operations, trying to figuring things out that other people already have.

The first process that I designed and collaborated with Courtney Waid of First Turn Operations, to create is the automated hiring process I famously used to hire nearly 200 assistants at my last company. The process takes in applicants, interviews them, performs background checks, and takes them through document execution. It's all automated and limitlessly scalable. If you're interested in trying it out, reply to this email with the word MATTRESS and I'll get you all the details.

The Riptide

image

My earliest memory is me getting stuck in a riptide with my father on the beach in Puerto Rico when I was five years old. We fought against the current for what felt like hours, before finally making it to shore and nearly passing out from exhaustion. It was the first time I ever thought I might die. Sounds dramatic? It's to cement an important point...the way to survive a riptide is simple, effortlessly swim left or right about thirty feet. So many of you are fighting a riptide in your business, trying to push harder against the thing that you aren't good out, don't know how to, or simply don't realize there's a better way. Sometimes you need to look to the side, avoid tunnel vision, and find a solution that is easily within your grasp. If you don't, just like in real life, you'll drown, only in this case, you might take your business down with you. Think about it.

On Productivity

Amy Randall and I finished the book, and I couldn't be more proud. My goal is for this to be THE book on productivity. We are currently working on the book cover, using DesignCrowd (the one above is the first submitted design, definitely not the final, but I kind of like it. By the next newsletter, it should be ready for purchase, I hope you'll help me get the word out and change peoples lives for the better.
