Bridging Productivity and Education: My Journey on the Board of Education Campaign
Aug 02, 2024 1:34 am
Hey there!
As many of you know, I'm currently running for a position on the Board of Education in Princeton—a race that's proving to be as engaging as it is competitive. With six candidates vying for three slots, the campaign has sparked not only my strategic thinking but also reflections on the intersection of productivity principles and educational administration.
A Call for Consistency and Intentionality
During this campaign, I’ve observed direct parallels between the inefficiencies often found in businesses and those in our school systems. A major issue at the heart of our district—and indeed, reflective of broader societal divides—is the gap between the privileged and the underserved. In Princeton, despite our wealth and educational accolades, 15% of students rely on free and reduced meal plans, highlighting significant underlying economic disparities.
Language Barriers and Inclusion
Our community's diversity includes a considerable population of Guatemalan immigrants, many of whom speak indigenous Mayan languages rather than Spanish. This revelation underscores the necessity for more inclusive and accurately targeted educational supports, highlighting a gap in our current systems that can leave these students behind.
The Role of Technology in Education
The inconsistency in how homework is assigned across different grades and teachers in our district is a textbook example of operational inefficiency. While some teachers use the digital platform Canvas, others rely on old-school methods like paper notebooks, creating a disjointed experience that can especially disadvantage neurodivergent students and those without home internet access.
Leveraging Productivity for Educational Equity
This campaign has reinforced my belief in the power of intentionality and structured systems—principles we champion here at Less Doing. Small changes in how processes are managed can have a profound impact, ensuring all students receive a consistent and supportive educational experience.
Looking Forward
As the race heats up, I remain committed to transparency, efficiency, and equity—values that each of you have seen reflected in my work with Less Doing. Your support and engagement mean the world to me as I continue to apply our shared principles to broader societal challenges.
Make it an effective day!
