The Interface of the Future Is Not What You Think

Jul 24, 2025 3:20 pm

Good morning, everybody.

Let’s talk about interfaces—not the shiny dashboards or fancy apps, but the real interface: the way you interact with your tools, your tech, and your time.

The real breakthroughs happening in AI aren’t just about making tools smarter, they’re about changing how we use them—how we interact, how we command, how we collaborate.

And for me, that always comes back to voice.

🧠 Voice: The Most Human Interface

Carbon Voice isn’t just a voice memo tool. It’s my operating system—because it lets me create Trello cards, draft newsletters (like this one), record content, manage coaching, and run my business… hands-free, screen-free, friction-free.

And that’s why I was really intrigued by a new tool I came across this week called Harmony. It connects directly to your Gmail and gives you a full voice-controlled interface.

You can say:

  • “Read me the latest message from Joe.”
  • “Label that under ‘clients’.”
  • “Reply with: Got it, I’ll handle this.”

You never even need to look at the screen. And unlike the “AI email assistant” tools I’ve ranted about before (because they automate your overwhelm instead of solving it), Harmony doesn’t take away your decision-making—it just makes the interaction radically smoother.

🤖 Robots Aren’t the Future—Interfaces Are

Another wild development this week is from Figure, a robotics company building actual humanoid robots—think C-3PO with a logistics degree. A client of mine is deploying six of them in a warehouse for goods movement and automation.

But here’s what I think is most interesting: Figure isn’t just building robots—they’re building physical interfaces.

The robot becomes the bridge between you and everything else. It’s not “a smart dishwasher.” It’s a smart human who uses the dishwasher.

That opens up wild possibilities:

  • Have the robot drive any car = driverless vehicle
  • Send it into the attic for boxes = safer storage
  • Let it use a power sander = hands-free woodworking
  • Ask it to make dinner or check email = sci-fi becomes daily life

We’re on the verge of interfaces to interfaces, and once that happens, everything around you becomes upgradable.

Let that one cook your noodle.

🧰 What This Means for You

Whether you’re a coach, an operator, a founder, or just someone trying to get through Tuesday with fewer tabs open, ask yourself:

  • What’s your default interface?
  • Are you still tapping, typing, and waiting on meetings?
  • What would your workflows look like if they were built for voice, motion, or automation?

The tools are here. The only question is whether you’re ready to change how you work—with them.
