ChatGPT is not a game changer

Like you, I've been playing around with Chat GPT a lot.

It is amazing.

And even though the amount of times I've heard people say it’s game-changing in the last two weeks is a little nauseating. It’s true. But there may be a better way to frame its awesomeness, so you can use it to your best advantage in your business.

The first thing most people want to know is, “Who can I replace with Chat GPT? It’s not as challenging as it sounds if you think of it simply as a time saver. Sure, in some instances it will replace someone by completely saving time in a role or on a task. But more than not, it's not gonna do that.

For example, in my further research of the world’s oldest companies, I’ve searched for some commonalities among them. Because I’ve gotten pretty deep into the subject matter, it’s hard for me to grasp the greater context. So I asked Chat GPT to tell me the similarities between the four of these companies. What exactly has made them sustainable?

It came up with eight or nine. Then I asked if it could summarize those similarities into three comprehensive bullet points. So it wasn't perfect. I'd say it was 90, 95%, but it got there and I took it to where I needed it.

Now if I had to do it myself, it would have taken half an hour. Chat GPT did it in three and a half minutes.

Next, the workshop I did last week was filmed. It will amount to eight hours in a transcript. I will take the entire transcript, give it to Chat GPT, and say, “Give me ten executive summaries from this transcript that are SEO-rich. Then I’ll have a human writer craft two posts and ChatGPT will do the other eight. I'm confident my writer’s work will be better overall, but the Chat ones will be good enough.

Additionally, we're going to turn the workshop into an online course. So i’ll take this transcript and come up with a syllabus. Yes, all of this stuff will have some human oversight, but it will save hours of work and delay. It will break bottlenecks and pretty much cure procrastination.

So no, don't think of it as a way of replacing people. Don't think of it as a game changer, just think of it as a time-saving tool. And I think that changes the way that you approach it.

Face to Face is the New Zoom

Our get-together last week in Princeton was epic! So nice to be back in a room live. There is no substitute for that energy. Thanks to all who attended and to those who expressed interest in the next one, it will be happening this Fall. I'll keep you posted here.
