I couldn't help myself

I was checking out the metrics on my email list. As one does.

It turns out that more than 50% of my list are considered "active subscribers" by SendFox's estimation.

Did you know you happen to be one of those active folks? (yay, filters) So thanks for engaging with my monthly newsletter. I'm glad you find it useful.

I wondered if I could get in touch if something cool comes my way during the month? Some mid-month bonus content just for you. I hope one more email from me won't prove too much, but I have trouble sometimes waiting when I get inspired. You probably do too.

Anyway.

I came across an article from Microsoft.

They did a study and made some remarkable post-pandemic discoveries. First, with more of its employees working remotely, they uncovered a new phenomenon called "Triple Peak Day." In essence, they found that there is a new productive time for their workers that is outside of the nine to five. And that time is 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

On the downside, people have had 250% more meetings than pre-pandemic. It's a scary number. Still, it's way better to meet in sweats with a coffee in your living room than in a boardroom. Also, the term "meeting" could have a ton of different meanings. So I'm going to withhold judgment on that piece of data.

The study also looked at the question of fewer work-life boundaries post-pandemic. The idea of people getting back to work at nine o'clock at night seems almost shocking. But what the study found was that people are as productive at 10:00 pm as they are at 8:00 am as a group. (Which I've been saying for years, thanks for the validation)

We see people falling into these natural patterns where they can work when they want and when they are the most effective. Additionally, if your company finds that you have a particular group of people who are super productive from 9 to 11 pm, don't make them come to a meeting at 8 am.

For years, I've been saying that finding your peak time is crucial. Here's a link to the app, BTW. Because if you have a small enough team and know everybody's peak time, you can stop having meetings that interrupt people's peak times. If you put this in place, I promise you will see a massive improvement in productivity.

It's not about minutes or hours of butts in seats anymore. Thank goodness. It's about doing the right things at the right times.
