So, 40 might be too old to start a contact sport. Or not.

I achieved a special victory at a recent taekwondo tournament. I took first place in traditional sparring. It included defeating an opponent who had beaten me in all four previous encounters.

It was a fantastic experience that truly embodied the meaning of kaizen for me.

I started training in taekwondo about a year ago to motivate my boys, and it’s been a fun ride. Although I've won first place in other events before, today’s victory was particularly meaningful.

When clients ask me about goals, I always say that I focus on kaizen, the idea of continual change for the better. I believe in being better in some way every day. And this victory is a testament to that philosophy, Rather than setting large, far-off goals, I focus on incremental improvements and continually strive to be my best self.

I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next. And I’m grateful for the lesson that taekwondo has taught me about perseverance, hard work, and the power of small, consistent improvements.

How do you incorporate kaizen into your life?
