It’s doing less of the stuff you shouldn’t do, so you can do the stuff you want to do.

I turned 40 recently. My birthday ritual is to look at my favorite quote and see where I’m at. Happy to report that “butcher a hog” and "die gallantly" are all I have left. Can't say I want to experience the latter, but the former totally piques my interest. My 23 and Me says I'm 100 percent Ashkenazi Jew, so my ancestors would definitely not approve. But I'm a productivity expert and insatiably curious. So I was thinking, “ There’s got to be a farm around here someplace.” 

Are you doing less of the things you shouldn’t and more of the things you want to? Just checking. 

The Wawa Way

When we create a process, we want it to be so clear and bulletproof that somebody with no training, off the street, could come in and do it. 

So I ordered this smoothie from Wawa through its app, and when I picked up the cup. This sticker above was on it. It’s a far cry from a Starbucks cup which probably just has your name and the name of the drink you ordered. WaWa lays out the process so anyone can make your drink. 

If you look closely you can see it starts with the blender jar. You put in the five ounces of dairy base and the two ounces of strawberry base. Okay, cool. You get a 16-ounce cup and 16 ounces of ice, and you put that in because the cup is the measurement tool. Then you move on to the cup. So we blended it. Now we pour the mix in, leave room for the bubbles, add the bubbles, and put in the straw. It even tells them to put the sticker on the cup. It's perfect. Simple and detailed.
